Tidy towns initially developed an area at Fiona's Way as a wild flower meadow to encourage wild flowers. A landscaper cleared the area, scattered wild flower seed anbiodiversityd left to it's own devices.
Roll on 5 years and sections of the meadow are diverse in plant and insect species.
The soils is generally poor quality and we are beginning to develop a suitable composting process.
October 2025 was the first time the area recevied a deep cut and clear. The grass is heavily dominant and matted in many areas and it is our intention to gradually reduce / remove grasses to allow wild flower species an opportunity to take hold. In February 2026, native seeds saved locally have been gradually added along with selected seeds added for variety of food source for birds and insects and colour throughout the year.
In May 2026, we introduced large timber blocks and drilled holes of varying width sizes (8mm & 10mm to a depth of 80mm) for solitary bees.
